planning the main task

In the last couple of lessons planning our main task we have to think and plan a number of important elements.

The elements we have had to consider are.
  • Titles and credits, these may involve
- sound fx
-Foley
-music
-dialogue

  • The genre of the opening sequence

  • The content that must be involved in the opening sequence e.g.
       -synopsis/brief
       - mood board
       -location
       -cast character
       -treatment
       - soundtrack

We also had to pitch our idea of what we are going to do as our opening sequence to the class. I created this in power point and had to include all of the above in it in order for my class and my teacher to have an understanding of what we are planning to do.
The more planning and story boarding and scripting we do the easier it will be to film as we all have a clear understanding in our head of what we want and the camera shots we are going to use.

preliminary task

For our preliminary task we had to story board and film a short clip lasting between a minute and a minute and a half of someone walking into a room and having a conversation. The story board had to show each camera shot.
I had to make sure the continuity of each shot was correct in order for the film to flow and look realistic. I also had to make sure there was shot reverse shot and to include the 180 bitty degree rule to show conversation.

This is a image of a shot reverse shot showing two people have a conversation. As you can see each of their facial expressions is shown clearly in order to show the audience the characters reaction in the conversation and how they are feeling. When filming this shot you need to make sure that the head space is correct. This is making sure that there is not loads room above the characters head, while still making sure you are using the rule of thirds. This type of shot is often used a lot in conversations and can often be found in soaps for example Eastenders and coronation street.

Doc Martin essay

In class we watched a short clip on Doc Martin and we had to analyse it for mise en scene and sound. it was done under exam conditions and we had a time limit as well to give a bit of a indication of what the exam will be like.
When analysing the clip i found that i was able to do it with no real stuggle and had a good idea of what i was going to write about. I felt like i had a lot to write about even though i was only writng about mise en scene and sound, in the exam you also have to write about camera shots the editing so this is why it is extrenly impotant to have a good understanding on all of thses factors in order to get straight down to the point.
In class we had to peer mark each other work and highlight the important parts and the structure of the writing.
After miss banks took the essays in and marked it. Overall she was plaeased with my work but there are a number of things i need to work on in order for me to get a higher grade.
I have to make sure that my paragraphs are structured well and have a clear set out of what topic I am explaining so that it is easy to understand and the reader doesn't t get lost. I also need to try and add in a few more technical terms to show I have understanding about it.
overall I feel a lot more confident when it comes to writing the essay as I have a clear understanding of what I need to do and improve on.
